Each piece is created through a complex process:
1. Quick sketches are made, both of the structure of the image and of its detail.
2. A complete pencil drawing is then meticulously made. This drawing is digitally scanned.
3. The scanned drawing forms the template for the "skeleton" of the piece which is carefully redrawn in Illustrator.
4. Each line now delineates an area which is filled with a colour, and each of these areas is layered so that it appears either over or under its neighbours.
5. Each image is printed to order by a digital pigment ink printer on archive paper.
