Fantasy Island: Promoting an imaginary Jersey (2016) (page 1)
This series of limited edition prints is in the style of vintage travel posters that advertise fictitious Jersey destinations and events. They irreverently caricature Jersey's confident view of itself and its seemingly endless enthusiasm for ambitious ideas and projects.
"Trinity Liberation" - Central government always needs to keep an eye on separatists in the country parishes.

"24H D’Endurance" - Even the most hardened ‘petrol head’ may find watching cars belting up and down Victoria Avenue for 24 hours becomes a bit dull. Just a bit.
(60cm x 80cm)
(60cm x 80cm)
"Cage Diving" - It’s interesting how people notice the shark at different times - it’s intended to be a transient presence. A nod to a classic 1970s film poster.

"Cruise Line" - Well, there had to be at least one Guernsey joke. Influenced by my favourite Cassandre travel posters.
(60cm x 80cm)
(60cm x 80cm)
"Havre des Pas Skating Rink" - Actually, at high tide, this ice rink is lower than 0m. I enjoyed exaggerating the perspective of the rink against the flatness of the buildings.

"La Hougue Bie En Hiver" - This was the first print I produced in this series, for some friends who collect vintage Alpine posters. I then had the sudden realisation that I could combine Jersey with a myriad of imaginary subjects in a series of works.

(60cm x 80cm)
"Marlin and Mojitos" - I love listening to stories of mythical trips to the Minquiers. This goes just a step further.
(60cm x 80cm)
(60cm x 80cm)
"Mondrian in St Clement" - I like the fantasy of Mondrian having to persuade the Parish Hall’s Art Committee that his paintings were of Jersey views, just to get a foot in the door.
(60cm x 80cm)
(60cm x 80cm)
"Monk at the Pav" - I really enjoyed studying lots of 1960s jazz posters to get a feel for this. The High Priest was one of the greatest.
(60cm x 80cm)
(60cm x 80cm)
"Napoleon’s Portelet Exile" - The reference to the picnic lunch provides some bathos to Bonaparte’s brooding intensity.
(60cm x 80cm)
(60cm x 80cm)
"Orca Safaris" - I wanted this to be on the edge of believable. The tower echoes the whale’s markings. The image is minimal and the lettering tight, to emphasise the size of the orca.
(60cm x 80cm)
(60cm x 80cm)
"Rotunda Yacht Pool" - I wanted to capture something of the sophistication of Long Island yacht clubs and the exhilaration of round the world yacht racing. At Fort Regent.
