Battle of Jersey (2023)

The works in this series are kaleidoscopic variations on John Singleton Copley's painting,
'The Death of Major Peirson', a masterpiece on display at Tate Britain in London.

Each is in a limited edition of 10, 100cm x 100cm.

The Battle of Jersey took place in 1781 and was the last French attempt to seize the Island. It was also the last time a pitch battle was fought on British soil against an invading force, on that occasion led by Baron Phillipe de Rullecourt.

Successfully repelled by the Jersey Garrison led by Major Francis Peirson, who was killed in action, this remains one of the most important moments in the Island’s history.

My original artworks are based on a high resolution photograph of the painting courtesy of Jersey Heritage.
